The Joan Holiday Theatre Workshops (8 – 12 Years)

Workshops include costume design and storytelling and participants can join for a single day to experience one set of skills, or for the full three days of the program.

The Joan’s school holiday theatre workshops provide specialised theatre making workshops for young performing artists this January.

Here’s a great opportunity for your young artists to enjoy new aspects in theatre-making, and share the experiences with new friends over their summer holidays!

8 to 12 years (23, 24, 25 January, 9am-4pm each day. Registation from 9am, workshop 9.30)

Fees: $60 per day; $162 for 3-day package

Enrolment: there are two steps to confirming your young artists for our Summer Holiday Theatre Workshops:

Young artists aged 8-12 will be exploring two distinct facets of theatre each day:

Costume Workshop

A hands-on experience of simple theatre costume design using recycled and found resources, from conception through to construction, learning basic techniques including weaving, hand sewing and working with yarn.

Teaching artist: Tania Rose is a theatre practitioner, teaching artist, musician and film-maker based in Western Sydney. Tania has worked as a performing arts practitioner and teacher with all age groups from pre-schoolers to the elderly, arts training as a means personal growth in confidence, ability and expression. Tania is co-founder of Restless Dance Theatre and a strong supporter of developing performing arts engagement in Western Sydney, and recently joined The Joan’s studioQ theatre training program to teach the Access Ensemble and the Starting Out young artist courses.

Storytelling Workshop

Learn the basics of play-building through different exercises in improvisation, the beginning-middle-end of story structure, and the basics of character.

Teaching artist: Emilia Stubbs-Grigoriou is a performing arts practitioner and teaching artist working in both theatre and film. Emilia is co-founder and producer for Furies Theatre Emilia has also been performing Punch & Judy with Horizon Theatre since 2014. Emilia teaches speech and drama at The Speech and Drama Studio. and Emilia’s recent theatre credits include: Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, Tom Stoppard’s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead and Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray. Emilia has a passion for teaching young artists in theatre training, with several years’ experience teaching at MLC and recently for studioQ at The Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre.
